Associate Provost for the Division of Academic and Career Success

Valerie Johnsen is the Associate Provost for Academic and Career Success at Florida International University. In this role, she works directly with the Provost to coordinate and accelerate initiatives that support student success, focusing primarily on undergraduate retention, graduation, and employment. In addition, she is charged with the integration of advising, coaching, and career success efforts throughout the university.
As a two-time alumna of FIU, Valerie has received both her MA and BA in Religious Studies. She has over 20 years of experience in Higher Education, holding multiple roles focused on various aspects of operational efficiency and student support. Valerie has served as Director of Undergraduate Advising, Director of Enrollment and Assessment, and most recently as Executive Director of Academic Operations for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE). During her role as Director of Academic Operations for CASE, she oversaw academic advising, data analytics, online operations, enrollment, and assessment. Additionally, she has acted as the Academic Liaison for the Global First Year program.
As an influential member of FIU and the community, she has served as an LGBTA mentor, founded the FIU Rainbow Panthers Association, and has served on the University’s Access and Equity Committee. She is an enthusiast about the development of processes, policies, and strategies that foster successful student outcomes throughout the University.
