Is coaching free?

Yes! Coaching is a free resource available to FIU Students on a space-available basis. If you have been contacted to attend our coaching program, please follow the instructions in your email to sign up for your first appointment as soon as possible.

What can you expect from your College Life Coach?

Your College Life Coach is here to support and guide you through your time at this university. As coaches, we work to provide a safe (judgment free) space where you can share your goals and personal motivations. Coaches will work with you to identify the steps you wish to take to accomplish your goals, while walking you through the process of finding solutions to roadblocks you may be facing. This process will allow you to begin learning how those solutions may apply to other situations you may face. Your coach will be empathetic and understanding, while being honest and respectful. Coaching will challenge you and hold you accountable to the tasks that you want to achieve.

What is expected of you?

We ask our students to be honest with their coach, be open to change, and be respectful of the process. To get the most out of the coaching process we ask our students to share their challenges and successes from both in and outside of FIU. We also ask that you maintain scheduled meeting times and that you communicate with your coach should anything conflict with the schedule.

What will we talk about in these sessions?

Coaching is about you and what you want to work on! The purpose of a coaching session is to have the opportunity to reflect on your progress, identify your strengths, brainstorm ways to manage obstacles, and learn skills that will allow you to develop and grow (academically and personally) in a safe space. Each session will start with a check in, focus on whatever topic you choose, and give you the opportunity to create a plan that will help you achieve your goal that week.

Who will know about my coaching sessions or what we talk about?

The coaching process is confidential, which means that we do not share what we talk about with other people, including students, faculty, staff, or your family. However, there may be some instances where we would need to share information with other campus offices. But don’t stress! We will always be open and transparent with you. In your first coaching session, we will review our coaching agreement and can answer any additional questions you may have.

What happens if I cannot make my individual meeting?

If you cannot make it to your appointment, please log on to MyFIU and go into the Panther Success Dashboard as soon as possible to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Although we know that emergencies happen, giving us advance notice allows us to best serve all of our students

I still have questions!
